(More customer reviews)As far as the product itself goes, this is perfect. The container is clearly designed to fit exactly as the original, and I haven't noticed anything different about the ink itself. I got this free to try as an Amazon Vine reviewer, but I will be buying this again.
I also appreciate the recycling envelope that comes with this. It actually never before occurred to me to think about recycling these small containers, but how nice that it's so easy to do so.
I do not love the packaging overall, which is a. a lot more packaging than with the original product and b. harder to open than the original. I laugh at the "frustration-free packaging" logo in this case. I'm all over Amazon's frustration-free packaging in general, when it's replacing the evil clamshell. In this case, I needed scissors to cut through the label to open the box, but I don't need any such thing with the original product. So this was frustration-enhancing packaging to me.
Heads up about the Brother LC41 cartridges, if you're not aware. The printer decides they need to be replaced when there's a hefty amount of ink left. If you choose, you can trick the printer.
1. Look at what I will call the "back edge" of the cartridge, the side that has no label and that has a ridge on either side and a half ridge in the middle. There is no label here because this is where the printer does its sensing of ink levels (and, indeed, where you can see the ink level for yourself).
2. Your job is to make it look like there is more ink. (You know, for a dumb printer sensor... you're not trying to fool a person.) I do it with a piece of electrical or adhesive tape. It's awkward, because of the shape of that middle bump, and note that the tape has to be higher than the amount left in the cartridge when you do this, so it HAS to go over that middle bump a bit. I usually take the edge of a pair of scissors or a letter opener or nail file to try to work the tape into the corners well. It needs to be thinnish tape and attached as smoothly as possible for this to work.
3. Apply tape and replace the cartridge, carefully, so as not to dislodge the tape.
4. "Did you replace black?" You betcha.
Problems with doing this:
1. Getting that tape right is a bother.
2. Now your printer WILL actually run out of ink, and you'll have some number of useless pages printed.
3. Sometimes when this happens to me, I have a problem getting the ink to flow again, presumably because it has dried out in a critical spot. I have remedied this with isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip.

AmazonBasics Remanufactured Replacement Ink AmazonBasics remanufactured replacements are a value alternative to the name brand. This replacement ink cartridge is made in the USA from new and recycled components. It is neither sponsored nor endorsed by Brother. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
By utilizing the remanufactured version of this ink, you are reducing the amount of waste being deposited into landfills. Instead of using a newly manufactured ink cartridge, by simply purchasing this remanufactured version, you are participating in the highest form of recycling: reuse. While not every component within the ink cartridge can be reused, we do ensure the best used and new components are obtained to deliver value and quality.
Environmental stewardship is an important practice, and our goal is to re-use as many of the components as possible without degrading product performance. When the cartridges are no longer remanufacturable, or components no longer adhere to our quality specifications, the components will be disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner. For example, the metals will be stripped from the cartridge body and sent to a local recycler, the plastics are sent for conversion to waste energy, and corrugate box materials are locally recycled. We also use electro-coagulation to treat manufacturing waste water, use degradable black bags to protect sensitive cartridge components during shipping, and our facility recycles cans, bottles and paper products.
STMC--Certified for Quality and Value Our manufacturer's dedication to developing and following documented practices has earned them STMC (Standardized Test Methods Committee) certification for their testing practices.
The quality control of the remanufacturing process begins before any cartridge is brought onto the production line. Experienced engineers develop specific quality processes for each cartridge type. The operators who are reviewing the cartridges are trained on not just the equipment they operate, but on the processes and procedures required to produce a quality, value cartridge.
First, each cartridge is cleaned and inspected to determine whether it meets the quality requirements for remanufacturing. Once a cartridge has been approved for remanufacturing, the process begins with a thorough cleaning procedure to remove waste ink, and, if needed, replace various components. As the cartridge passes through each stage of the remanufacturing process, it is tested to confirm that the cartridge functions correctly.
A postage-paid recycle-return bag is included with your new remanufactured cartridge so you can return your empty cartridge for recycling.
