(More customer reviews)Over two years ago I purchased a Brother HL-2700CN color laser printer because I was tired of always replacing my 1/2 full ink-jet print cartridges when the print heads clogged. We don't print a lot, but it never failed that I was spending over $100 a year on new ink cartridges because the last set stopped working and wouldn't print any more. Sure, I paid more for the printer at the outset (around $300 US), but my hope was that the dry toner wouldn't go bad as quickly. I'm happy to say that the first "starter" cartridges that Brother included lasted nearly two and a half years before the black got too low to use. But this isn't a review of the printer, rather of the toner I purchased from "Laser Tek Services, Inc.".
The toner bottle arrived mid-week so Saturday morning I donned my old jeans and a ratty T-shirt and went to the garage to perform this dirty job. I had some experience filling photo copiers at the office so I knew that toner is extremely fine (much like "talcum powder"), and will stick in the smallest crevasses and permanently stain clothes, hands, carpeting, etc. When I opened the kit that Laser Tek sent, I was happy to find not only a funnel cap for the bottle, but also a paper towel and pair of rubber gloves. Following their instructions I carefully removed the plug from my toner cartridge, put the funnel cap on the bottle, and started pouring the toner in.
Even though my cartridge was completely empty, their bottle filled it nearly to the top. The amount in the bottle was just perfect for the job and I didn't waste any, nor did I feel that it was a 1/2 full solution. In the end, I didn't need the gloves at all, and the paper towel they supplied was extremely efficient at picking up the small bits of toner that had managed to escape after re-inserting the cartridge plug.
After replacing the cartridge in the printer I printed a number of black-and-white pages, some test patterns, some text, some photos, and one solid black test page. All of them came out perfect, no streaking or other noticeable artifacts.
In short, if you're looking for a re-fill to your toner cartridge Laser Tek Services provides an excellent product at a very reasonable price.
