(More customer reviews)I bought this mike for use with my minidisc recorders, mainly to record choral concerts at church and in other places. It has a nice stereo directionality and separation choices, but I advise you to watch your record levels or mike sensitivity setting because the sound levels tended to overload on loud passages or with percussive music like piano when used with my recorder's default (high) mike sensitivity setting.
It's very solid and well made. I'd rather have a boxed carrying case instead of the soft pouch provided, but that's a quibble.

(More customer reviews)For starters, if you have a Mac, the software program included with the camera did not work on my 6 month old Mac. iMovie should upload it though. Here are some of my observations:
Likes:
Picture quality with HD setting, and fine setting (there is also a better super fine setting), was stunning on my 55' Samsung HD TV
Touch screen capability
Internal memory, with a slot for a memory card too
Convenient small size, and comfortable to use
Ability to connect easily to HD TV for viewing, or to a stand alone DVD recorder for recording onto a DVD
Quick and easy uploading of video from the camcorder to your computer
Choices of different quality HD settings and if you wish, an SD setting
Dislikes:
You have to manually open and close the lens cover
For some reason, when I set the date and time it gets messed up (I don't know why, and I'm doing it correctly. I just hope it doesn't continue to be a problem, as I like to have the date on a recording)
Manual is on a CD to upload on your computer (there is a quick guide booklet). Give me a manual in a book anytime.
Problems with the sound recording - must have an automatic level record function for audio, and it 'spikes' at times making for a very unpleasant listening experience.

Just realize that the higher quality HD recording will use a lot of memory, so although 16 GB is quite a bit of memory, somewhere down the line, you may want to purchase a memory card, especially if you record in the better HD setting. Also, if you have a DVD recorder (stand alone), it will not record in HD. You will get a nice picture, but not full HD quality. The picture will still be far superior to a standard definition camcorder. I don't think your computer DVD recording will do the HD either. So, your best picture will be from viewing from the camcorder to your TV, or uploading on your computer and watching on your computer monitor. Anything I record onto a DVD, I plan on saving on my computer if I want to watch it in full HD.
I did a lot of research online before choosing this HD camcorder. It's nearly impossible to find an HD camcorder that is perfect, and is reasonably priced (I really didn't want to spend $800-$1500). Every possible choice seemed to have some drawbacks, or bad reviews. That being said, while not perfect, this Samsung HD camcorder offers quite a bit of value for it's price tag.
UPDATE - Well, in spite of the superior HD video quality on this camcorder, I decided to send it back. The audio problem just wasn't acceptable, especially because I video events, like my daughter's school concerts, my own band's performances, etc., in which audio is important too. I've decided to go with a Sony, because I've owned Sony camcorders in the past and the audio was always very good.

To really appreciate Samsung's HMX-H204BN is to start by looking at the photos of it on the Images tab. We'll give you a minute . . . . . . . Yup, it's that small. That compact. It's almost unbelievable that a camcorder this small could even be produced. But thanks to modern technology, we have another marvelous invention. And, not to mention the price, but the price is equally impressive for a camcorder with a 16-gig hard drive, 20x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, and 200x digital zoom. We've got one word for it: Wowser.

(More customer reviews)I've had the 1616m system with the Cardbus for about 5 years. It has worked great for me. The adapter eventually went bust, and I bought this one. Why it doesn't come with a plug for the wall is a mystery to me. It just comes with the transformer? I still have the plug from the one that busted, but it has never plugged into the transformer very well. It's just odd to me. It's like buying a car and you have to buy wheels separately. Lets say I lost this and had to replace it, I would have to also source a plug that could fit into this adapter.

(More customer reviews)I have recorded lectures from the same location with and without the headphones in a room with 80+ students. With the headphones the sound volume is approximately double with a lot of the ambient noise such as A/C, fans, those two annoying girls behind me whining is greatly reduced to a point where it is nearly eliminated from the recording. It also eliminated the guy next to me asking me questions(I could hear my responses, but not his questions). It did not eliminate the comments from the lady right in front of me. However, I really appreciate not having to listen to those girls again while reviewing.
I run the cord up my right arm and over my right shoulder (I am right handed) and let them dangle on my chest. To ensure directional benefit, I hang one on either side of my neck. There is a slider that can be adjusted to hang in a clear spot. I have noticed no noise from clothing interference.
Overall I am impressed with the improved quality of my recordings, they are easy to use and really improve the usability of my notes, which is why I purchased the Echo.

Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder Review

(More customer reviews)A year ago, I wrote a lengthy comparison of the Edirol R-09 WAVE/MP3 Recorder, Black and the Zoom H4 Handy Recorder + 2GB Accessory Kit (pre-accessory kit). I wanted a high quality, easy to use recorder, so even though the H4 had all of the features of the Edirol and sold for considerably less, I kept the Edirol because it was so much easier to use.
Zoom has responded with the H2, a scaled down version of the H4 with all of the features of the R-09 and all of the controls right where you need them. The H2 even has additional features over the R-09, but they don't get in the way. For example, there's a choice of a 90 degree recording pattern, a 120 degree recording pattern, and even a surround sound option. Samsontech has some nice video demonstrations on its website.
One big complaint I've had with the Edirol is the cost of its add-on stand. Unlike the Edirol, the H2 comes with a simple stand. In addition, the H2 has a threaded hole so that it can be mounted on a standard digital camera tripod! On a separate note, it's much easier to replace batteries with the H2 than the Edirol.
Recently, I got together with friends and recorded the same live acoustic music on both the Edirol R-09 and the Zoom H2. I used Adobe Audition only to normalize both tracks (that is, equalize their loudness). The first time we played them back, I thought I detected a VERY slight preference for the Edirol, with the overall opinion of the group split between the two units. The second time we played them back, my preference was for the H2, with overall opinion continuing to be split. We all agreed that the differences were so small as to be negligible if there were any at all. The sound files can be found at [...] for those who'd like to hear for themselves. We were sitting in a circle with the recorders located next to each other on a mantle above and outside the group.
I do prefer the Edirol's control buttons to the H2's membrane and I'm not about to sell the Edirol, perhaps because I am more familiar with the Edirol and don't want to give it up just yet. Also, the Edirol R-09 is the darling of the moment. However, if I owned neither, I couldn't justify the huge bump in price of the Edirol over the H2 and would opt for the H2. When I went to a music party last weekend and knew I'd need only one recorder, I grabbed the H2.
