Ultimate Ears 200 Noise-Isolating Earphones - Purple Review

Again, I am impressed by the quality of Logitrvh products. have been happily using a Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse at the office and a newer Logitech Anywhere Mouse at home. They are both great mouses (mice?).
The Logitech Ultimate Ears 200 Earphones live up to the Logitech reputation. As I write this review, I have the earphones in, sitting in my office listening to CCR. The sound is good. The stereo separation is even better. While, I am used to using headphones, the earphones have some obvious advantages. Notably, they are less bulky, small enough to fit into a small plastic carrying case, about two by three inches in size.
I should note that the earphones are noise isolating, not noise cancelling. They work by attenuation of background sound, not cancellation. However, they do a good job of it. There remains only one question. How do you get any work done with these things on? "Down On The Corner, out in the street, Willy and the Poorboys are playin'; Bring a nickel; tap your feet."

Ultimate Ears 200vi Noise-Isolating Headset - Grey Review

Ultimate Ears 200vi Noise-Isolating Headset - Grey
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Logitech's ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET is just what the doctor ordered. Lightweight, comfortable, and wonderfully functional, this headset won't disappoint.
I've used many headsets over the years (and ears!), and these are quite good, especially for the price. They fit great, sound good, look good, and are extremely comfortable, which is the most important point for me. Here are some other features you might find interesting:
- Frequency Response range of the ear pieces: 20Hz - 15kHz
- Impedance: 16 ohms
- Comes with 5 pairs of ear cushions and protective hard case.
- Comes with remote volume control and microphone built in.
- MSRP as of this writing: $40
I tested these on an iPod Shuffle and my Blackberry 8310. I also compared them to the old headset that came with my Blackberry and my husband's Sennheiser CX 500 headphones. I really can't tell you much about what the old Blackberry headset. They are fairly generic earphones that came standard will all Blackberries for several years. On paper, I have no idea what these headphones are supposed to be able to do. On the other hand, the Sennheisers can claim a frequency response range of 17Hz - 22kHz with the same impedance of 16 ohms. So on paper, the Sennheisers have a significantly broader range than the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET . The iPod only has a frequency response range of 20Hz-20kHz, so this range is fully covered by the Sennheisers, but not by the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET, which can't cover the top end.
But the proof of the pudding is in the eating so I tried all 3 of them on the Shuffle with some Blood on the Tracks tracks. As you would guess, the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET lack of top end resulted in more bass than the Sennheisers gave me. That's not all bad, depending on your tastes. The old Blackberry set was the distinct loser of the 3 units with a muddier sound. The Sennheisers also don't have a mic or volume control so listening on a Shuffle with those was not nearly as convenient as with the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET. But, the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET did give me a very nice, clear sound, albeit with more bass.
For comfort, I rate the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET the best of the 3 with the Sennheisers close behind. I've read a few reviews that use the phrase "shove them into my ear canal." That was not an experience I had to endure. In fact, the ear cushions that came installed on the Ultimate Ears fit me perfectly and when I inserted them into my ears no shoving was involved. They went in easily and felt very comfortable. My current headset is far less comfortable and after an hour or so, they give me a headache. I'm anxious to try the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET out over the next week in work conditions.
The documentation for the Ultimate Ears says some features don't work with all phones but they worked with my old Blackberry just fine. The party on the other end heard me clearly and I heard them. What more can you ask for?
After spending an hour or so with the ULTIMATE EARS 200vi HEADSET, I have to say that I am impressed and plan to use them in my daily life. Since that involves a lot of phone time, the lack of a higher end frequency range won't bother me. But even for music, I'd be okay with it. For $40, these bad boys are a good deal.

Audiology Alpine iPod Earbuds Review

Audiology Alpine iPod Earbuds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use these for audio book listening while riding a bike - so sound quality is not a major factor for me - but I think the quality from these is better than average. The Maxell earbuds I bought with these are much much worse.
I bought these along with a set of Maxell EB-95's a couple of weeks ago and I like these Audiology earbuds just fine. The shape of the bud is a little different in that it has a part that sticks out and into the ear canal a little way, but not so much as to isolate the listener from the surroundings. I use these while on the bike so that's important to me. They also have a small volume control near the "Y" in the wire which I find to be a little annoying. I think this might be useful to other users, but not for me.
I give only 4 stars because I am getting a feeling that the white earbud covers are discoloring as I use them - after 2 weeks they are not as white as I recall when new. I may discard these after a few more weeks if the covers become stained from handling and use.
One more point - the plug is a right-angle type. I wish more were that way - I like to put my zen nano player in the watch pocket found on most blue-jeans, and the jacks that point straight up wear out faster. The right-angle jack works great for me.

Midland TH4 Tactical Series Throat Mic with Acoustic Ear Tube Review

Midland TH4 Tactical Series Throat Mic with Acoustic Ear Tube
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, I really like this product. The earpiece is what I expected and is very comfortable. It stays in place very well generally, but tends to slip if it gets damp (such as when sweating). The PTT is very convenient and easy to use even with gloves or constricted finger mobility (including through most shirts and jackets), but if you don't hit the center of the button it will often fail to key. The PTT unit itself is a bit heavier than I expected, but the full-rotation belt clip stays comfortably on a 1-inch belt (or sideways on a belt keeper for a security/police duty belt, as I use it). The neck band for the mic itself is a bit tight and isn't very adjustable. I have a 17-1/2 inch neck, and I have to wear it skewed to one side to ensure at least one of the pickups is close enough to my larynx for clear transmission. The mic neck band fits me snugly, and it took a while to get used to it. The transmission quality is somewhat muted, but it's less noticeable if the user articulates carefully. The mic seems to have a little trouble transmitting from a loud environment (such as a dance club), but a careful listener in a quiet environment can make out what you're saying; quiet-to-quiet transmission is excellent. The entire device is a bit bulky and looks awkward on an exposed neck (i.e. without a coat or turtleneck), but that's a symptom of its rugged, durable design. It can easily be concealed under a fully-zipped coat (I have one similar to this: White Sierra Men's El Dorado Jacket). The wires are plenty long with resilient coiling, so you can rig yourself up however you need to for the best convenience and utility (unlike the Midland AVPH3 Transparent Security Headsets with PTT/VOX (Pair), which have limited wire length).
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who is considering getting the Midland AVPH3 Transparent Security Headsets with PTT/VOX (Pair) for their Midland GXT1000VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) (Black/Silver), unless a more-professional and less-tactical look is required (such as some security posts). Its best feature for me is the ability to key up the mic and communicate without making obvious motions for PTT and holding the mic in an appropriate position. Recommended buy!

Logitech Ultimate Ears 350 Noise-Isolating Earphones - Dark Silver Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, folks. Since Amazon was out of stock, I bought them brick and mortar. I'll start by warning you thh case is an absolute joke. Gut that's where it stops being funny. The selection of tips is good, and the comfort is very good. The bass enhanced claim left some doubt in my mind as far as fidelity. Well, there is a bump in the bass.
Not a big boom, but a heft for sure. Better than I expected across the range. Comfort is above average. Wires are short for us tall guys. The instruments sound convincing (especially given the price point) Now keep in mind we have different ear shapes, and different preferences. The sound has a small U shape, similar to the tripl.fi's
It's not as refined as the triples. I gave them a 5 star rating based on the gap the less expensive iem's keep closing on the 400 dolar range of iem's At the fifty dollar tag, I've yet to hear anything under 100 dollars to sound better to my ears and preferences. After hearing several new iem's in the 50-80 dollar range, I was thinking how far this price range has come. In my honest opinion, this set of UE's sets a totally new standard for any iem under 100 dollars. I am thoroughly impressed. Do not hesitate. As I listen to these 50 dollar marvels, I wonder if some of my iem's costing as much as 200 dollars are going to get much use for quite some time. Soundstage is way above the price range, and the build looks like a nice step up from the metro fi series. I would choose these over the UE 700. That's just my opinion though. 50 dollars now buys a very solid mid-fi set of iem's.
A touch warm, while still having nice highs. OUTSTANDING !!

I've got this for my 7 year old daughter because she loves panda designs. After the package came, she rushed to plug into her ipod. After that she would take the earphones everywhere. She also uses them on portable DVD player. It was really good to have them on 5 hour plane ride. Because the earphones fit well and snugly, it didn't fall off her ears. I also tried them on and the sound quality is surprisingly really good, even for adults. The music was crisp and clear with good bass. Great buy..

Creative Aurvana 2 In-Ear Headphones Review

Creative Aurvana 2 In-Ear Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own several headphones which I use for different activities. For instance when I'm working out or engaging in outdoor activities such as biking or hiking I will use a cheaper headphone due to the sweat and wire stretching that occurs, but on business trips or at the office I'll use the more expensive headphone. I own the Creative EP-630 (died after a year of abuse), the Creative EP-830 (sounds nearly identical to the 630 but has a punchier clear bass), the Klipsch Image S4 (died after 6 months abuse), Bose in ear (overrated), and the Creative Aurvana Live(makes your ears hot). I decided to try the new Creative Aurvana In-Ear 2 since I was very satisfied with Creative thus far. After listening to the 830 for several months I have become highly accustomed to it's sound quality so upon listening to the Aurvana I was very disappointed considering I paid only $15 for the 830 while I paid $99 for the Aurvana. But after listening to it for a while, testing several types of music from hip hop, techno, pop, rock, and classical I am able to better appreciate its quality. The 830 is much louder for some reason where I had to lower the volume 5 levels or raise it when listening to the Aurvana. The Aurvana has a frequency response of 15Hz-16kHz compared to the 830 of 6Hz-23kHz so it is expected that the 830 has a much stronger bass, but that doesn't diminish the fact that the Aurvana's bass is also quite good. It's just not as good as the 830 which has the best bass of any headphone under $300. You'll need to move to the Shure SE530 to get similar bass quality and depart with half a grand in the process. With that said the Aurvana has superior mid and high levels compared to the 830 which sounded somewhat muddied. While listening to certain music I was able to pick up certain instruments or sounds in those range which I didn't hear or notice while listening to the 830. I think most people today will prefer the sound of the 830 due to the bass which many people expect to hear in their music. I am quite pleased with the Aurvana though, I just wish the bass was more like the 830. Overall the sound quality is superior to the Klipsch S4 and the Bose. I would rate the Klipsch with the worst sound quality compared to the others which is a disappointment considering cnet and other web sites gave it slobbering reviews. Two words. Highly overrated.
The construction on the other hand combines high quality material and aesthetic beauty. It features a compact and robust metal body construction with dark chrome finishing, hypoallergenic eartips and AuraSeal noise-isolation technology which Creative claims ensure up to 95% noise isolation. These headphone are probably the most comfortable headphone I've used and makes a perfect seal with ease while others seem to slip out simply by walking, ahem Klipsch. They are light enough and small enough where you don't even notice them after a while. While driving and riding on the train it managed to block out roughly 60% of outside noise. The 120cm-long cable is 2mm thick and covered in smooth plastic-like rubber which I prefer, whereas the 630 and 830 wires have a rough rubbery texture which sticks to everything from clothes, furniture, and even skin which pisses the hell out of me at times, causing your ear buds to be unexpectedly pulled out of your ear.
The Aurvana comes bundled with an airplane adapter, a travel case with cable management, and an accessories kit which includes 2 sets of S, M, L size interchangeable eartips for a personalised fit and a cleaning tool for hygienic maintenance. If you want to see exactly everything inside the box then go to youtube which shows unboxing of the package. In conclusion, these are very nice yet not great headphones(needs more punchier bass). For its design, build quality, and accessories it is a decent package for $99, but for much, much less you can settle for the 830 or even the 630 where both have incredible sound quality for their ridiculously cheap price, but their build quality is also cheap. I would recommend getting both, one for office/business use and the other for more active situations that will likely damage it.

Logitech 985-000080 Ultimate Ears 500 Noise-Isolating Earphones - Dark Silver Review

Logitech 985-000080 Ultimate Ears 500 Noise-Isolating Earphones - Dark Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Good:
The Ultimate Ears 500 Delivers crystal clear sound with beautiful rendering of acoustic, rock, classical and hip hop.
The noise cancellation works better than expected for most in ear earphones (you can barely hear someone speaking to you at 3 feet).
The flat cable is nearly tangle free. It does exhibit some memory (stays coiled if you stored it coiled). The cable has a right angle at the connector and feels very strong. Also, the cable is 4 feet long (I measured it) which is great for taller people who put their mp3 player in their pants pockets.
I'm 5'10" and I can put my iphone in my cargo shorts pockets and the cord still has some slack.
Comes with 6 different ear cushions to fit any size ear, which is important to get sound isolation and optimize bass response.
You really can wear them over the ear comfortably which helps them stay on better if your running.
The packaging is elegant and is a page from the apple playbook.
The Bad:
The one fault of the sound quality of these earphones is the bass response. When listening to music that is bass heavy, the bass response is average (but still blows away any stock earbuds). If you primarily listen to hip hop or rap, these may not be the best choice for you.
I wish these had a microphone. This isn't really a negative because they aren't advertised with a mic...it'd just be nice.
When you run with these headphones and you rub the cords on your shirt, there is some cable noise (microphonics) which translates into a scraping or rubbing sound to your ears. If you wear the cables over your ears, this almost completely removes this cable noise with these earphones.
The Review:
If you're looking for a replacement for those white ipod earbuds these earphones definitely should be near the top of your list.
The sound fidelity is crystal clear and the noise reduction works great.
I think these would also be great for active people/ runners as they are comfortable for long periods of time and when you wear the cables over the ear there is no cable noise when it rubs on your collar or shirt.
People who travel on airplanes or public transportation or any noisy environment will appreciate the noise isolation that lets you enjoy your music without distraction.
For under $100 it would be hard to find a better value.

Emerge Technologies Retractable Stereo Computer Headset with Microphone (ETAUDIOVOIPS) Review

Emerge Technologies Retractable Stereo Computer Headset with Microphone (ETAUDIOVOIPS)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love these headphones and their non-mic'ed little brothers.
The mic/headphone is small and simple enough to put in a briefcase and keep there until needed. On the road they provide both good headphone ability and pass-able microphone recording ability. All while not getting tangled (and therefore broken cords) and taking up a minimum amount of space.
If you are the type that demands $100 headphones or a studio quality mic, these are not for you.
And admittedly I would not use these for important client interviews. But, if I am traveling for a day or two and need to use VoIP, or talk to someone who can handle a lower quality mic (e.g., co-workers, family, friends, etc.) they work very well. The quality can be increased by raising the mic to your mouth.
The in-ear headphones provide good isolation from outside noise (e.g., airport, kids, etc.)
As with all retractable headphones/cables, eventually the retractable portion will break (happens much faster for the headphone-only versions that got used every day) and the cables will just snap back into the coil. (Which is why I stopped using the headphone only version of these.) The problem usually is that the ball bearing jumps out of the plastic track it rides in because the edges of the plastic track wears down. To "fix" this, peel off the manufacture's label, and remove the small Philips head screw that holds everything together. Throw away all the parts related to the spring (you'll never get that back together anyhow) and keep the now un-retractable cable/headphones/mic.

Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) Review

Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White)
Average Reviews:

They have great sound, but then this is Sony, I wouldn't expect anything less. Problems with design. I don't use the for running, but can see this would cause problems. The "earhook" are very nice is you are not moving about. Easy on your ears, very comfortable. But the slightest movement dislodges them. This could have been corrected if they had made the earhook longer. As if, for exercise these are the pits. I used them hooked to my laptop to listen to my writing being reread back on ReadPlease. Even with as little movement as that take they were constantly falling off!
I also didn't like the cord design. Instead of the Y shape with equal cords, that generally are adjustable. The has a very short side that goes under your chin and then the long lead comes from the one side. Nice concept, but it's the pits for something with very long hair. Feels like I have a chin strap.
Sorry, cheap ones half the prices are much better.
