Compatible LC-51BK Black Ink Cartridge Review

(More customer reviews)This cartridge is supposed to be the same as LC51BK but it will not work in my Brother printer/fax. It does not recognize the cartridge. When I compare the "real" cartridge to this one I notice a difference: there is a little plastic pin that sticks out of the top of the "real" cartridge and is making contact with something inside the printer. The "comparable" cartridge looks exactly the same and fits in the slot perfectly, but does not have this little plastic piece so my printer is acting like the cartridge is not installed at all. BE CAREFUL and check your old cartridge before purchasing this one. It is a great deal but may not work for you!

Brother DR250 Drum Unit Review

(More customer reviews)Since Amazon doesn't allow a person to write two reviews about one product, I am doing this review about the drum that goes with the Brother DCP-1000. In my review two years ago about the DCP-1000, I raised questions about the drum, which is the DR250. Since then I did replace the drum and also used only genuine Brother toner cartridges, and I have gone through three cartridge replacements (over 7,000 pages) without any print output problems. I have also complained to the company that made the toner refill that I had used on the first drum, and they have given me a full refund. Based on my experience, it seems that the Brother drum and replacement toner cartridge system results in a lower cost-per-page printed than similar laser printers using integrated drum-and-toner cartridges.

(More customer reviews)Just a minor point of correction to the previous review that addresses the distinction between the DRUM units and the TONER cartridges: first, when you purchase the printer, it arrives with 4 drum units that ALREADY HAVE "STARTER" TONER CARTRIDGES IN THEM. This may be lead to some of the confusion, but, yes, they are distinctly separate products. Second, the previous review indicates that the drum units are good for "5,000" pages and that you would therefore replace the toner cartridges 3 times before replacing the drum. In point of fact, the drum life is rated at "15,000" pages. Consequently, you would replace the toner 8-9 times IF you use the TN-160 toner product --rated at 1,600 pages-- or closer to 6-7 times if you use the more economical TN-210 product which is rated for 2,100 pages.
