(More customer reviews)I selected this copier/printer based on price, features and the Canon name. I felt like I got "Oh such a deal" at the time I bought mine in Sept.08. It was painless to set up: install the software; plug in the USB cable (not provided) when prompted and click and Voila! I set it up as a shared printer and it is now the main printer in our 4 PC home network.
- Its quick
- Makes clear, clean copies
- Not as quiet as some when printing but definitely not loud
- Top sheet feeder works well, even for multiple sheets
- Toner cartridge was a breeze to install
- Enters and exits its "sleep" mode flawlessly, even from another PC on the network
- Comes with a FULL TONER CARTRIDGE, not a starter. For those who do not know about this: many new printers, especially when being sold at LOW prices, are sold with a toner cartridge that's only good for a few hundred copies at most. Just enough to get you started on day one and to give you time to go buy a "real" toner cartridge. This is often how the mfg's will move more units, by selling them at super-low prices knowing they will make their profits on you returning for toner.
With the rebate I couldn't pass this up, although if I were paying full retail I would have chosen one that also scans to the PC. This one DOES NOT. It is only a printer and copier. I would also consider one that has a Print server and NIC built-in IF I could also connect directly for scanning.
I would recommend this printer.

(More customer reviews)This is a great way to get out from under the oppressive cost of ink cartridges. I have recommended them to many people now including family. Great product, It works just like advertised. You really need to get one of these, but it is defiantly better to have separate print heads and cartridges when using this product, otherwise you have to clean the print heads that are attached to the cartridges. If they are separate, you only have to replace the print head when the print quality is noticeably poorer.

(More customer reviews)To start - I am a staunch advocate for CIS! But let's get down to the brass tacks! I've used CIS on much larger machines, and highly satisfied. So when I saw one available for my Brother MFC 6490 - I watched the videos, read the reviews, I'm sold on the idea. I placed the order.
Ratings: 1) the order was shipped pronto - 5 stars. 2)did the manufacturer put these cartridges in my printer? No. 0 Stars.
Just because the cartridge number is the same, doesn't mean that the physical characteristics of the various machines are identical.
I installed the cartridges per instructions - but the tab that sticks up on the 4th cartridge that activates the door trigger (a) is in the wrong place, and (b) didn't even reach the cabinet of the printer. Then the real problem raised its ugly head - I put a soft stick in the door trigger to test the cartridges - the printer didn't load any ink from the black cartridge, even though it had clicked into place.
To summarize - Vendor 5 stars, Manufacturer 0 (5 stars for concept, 0 for testing)

I was very happy to find that my fears were unfounded. I had watched the installation videos and had no trouble doing it myself. (More customer reviews)I was really skeptical of using non-OEM cartridges since I've read about bad experiences from other people. However, since printer cartridges can be so expensive and my finances aren't getting any better, I decided to try it for once. I got this pack for my printer and tried it.
I did not have any trouble with the cartridges on my brother mfc-240c printer and the quality was comparable to the OEM ones. I just noticed that sometimes (once every six months or so), the printer would say I have no more ink when I could still hear a significant amount inside the cartridge. I solved this problem by sticking masking tape at the back of the cartridge where you could see the ink level. I suppose they have some laser light technology thing to check the ink level. Anyway, I got to squeeze out every drop (or most of it) of ink out of the cartridge.
I would estimate that these cartridges run out 25% faster than the OEM ones, but at this price, I could buy three times the OEM, so it not only balances out but also goes into savings.

(More customer reviews)The CISS works very well and was very simple to install. My only complaint was it only came installed about 20% ink (about the same as a standard ink cartridge). If you buy this package, make sure you get the optional bulk ink bottles. Even with this extra purchases it is still a good deal.

(More customer reviews)The brother ink cartridges are too expensive to keep up with for me due to frequent and high-volume printing. Purchased these to help reduce costs. They work, but the first 20 or so pages had ink spots in random places when printing - most disturbing were the red and blue spots on what was supposed to be grayscale printing. I cleaned multiple times, probably 15, to get it to stop, and it finally did after a while. The color is slightly off with cyan, I don't know why, but forget about printing photos with these inks. As a general utility, it is fine, but if you are interested in fine prints with color-match, this is probably not your best choice.
