(More customer reviews)We purchased 2 of these about a month ago. Three days ago the office manager installed the first one. As far as we can tell the image quality is good and stable on the paper. No complaints yet. We'll see how long they last and if there are any ill effect to the printer. Since we do not expect these inexpensive printers to last more than a couple of years, if they do last that long using these toners, we will be happy. After two years it's time to upgrade the printers anyway. Beats the local office supply price by a factor of many.

(More customer reviews)This generic cartridge fit my Brother 540 printer perfectly, and immediately began generating clear, sharp images that were at least equal to the more expensive OEM toner cartridge it replaced. Good value for cost, although at this early point I can't verify actual number of images produced per toner cartridge.
Hint for Brother printer users: the toner empty indicator on top of your printer is triggered by a signal generated when the toner approaches empty, allowing a light to pass through the cartridge. If you cover the "window" through which this light passes, you can get another few hundred images out of your cartridge. I use electrical tape to cover the small round "windows" placed on the side/top/center.

Replacement Toner Cartridge Compatible with Brother TN580 Review

(More customer reviews)I don't use this printer for presentation quality output, so I wasn't too concerned about matching the quality with the OEM cartridge. I use it for drafts, printing receipts, etc.. That said, I did compare some of my output from the original cartridge with this and the difference is so negligible as to be a non-issue for my use. Since the price was only 1/3 of the OEM cartridge, I think it's a bargain. As others have said, if I were using the output for presentations where I needed the sharpest output possible, I might take a closer look. For me, and my particular usage, it's 5 stars.
Update: After about 5 months of use, I've run into a couple of problems: First, the toner light came on again after about a month, even though the cartridge was new and had only printed less than 100 sheets of text. Second, after about 3-4 months with the toner light on (and less than 500 copies printed), the toner light went from blinking to solid and the status light went red, indicating that toner was completely gone. Apparently, the HL-5250DN uses a gear to gauge toner usage and the mechanical stop had been hit on this cartridge, fooling the printer into thinking it was out of toner. After messing around with several "fixes" found on the Internet, my printer won't work at all now. I am going to get a real Brother cartridge and will see if that fixes the problem. I'll post the result here in a subsequent update.

(More customer reviews)As a former copier/MFD repair tech with 34 years of experience, I can say with confidence that the OEM product is ALWAYS superior to ANY aftermarket imaging supply item, no matter what the aftermarket product may claim. Just the act of disassembling a factory sealed toner unit will compromise its integrity if it is refilled and reused. There are moving parts inside a toner cartridge which can wear out if it is reused beyond it's designed lifespan, causing toner leakage or poor image quality. Additionally, the toner used in "compatible" copier supplies is often contaminated with moisture or other impurities that cause it to clog up. Aftermarket toner may also pose a health risk, because it may not meet the same safety standards as the original, due to using poorer quality chemical components, or different formulations.

Con: This is an edit of this product after 2 weeks using this product. I am getting light print on left edge on each page. I did further research with Brother and found the TN580 compatible toner they sent me is not compatible with my MFC-8480DN. I had called The Factory Depot after receiving the TN580 Toner cartridge because I had ordered the TN650 compatible toner. They told me the TN580 was compatible with the TN650. I plan to get a Brother TN650 toner to verify what I have found.

(More customer reviews)I acquired a Brother MFC-9320CW all-in-one printer last year and was very disappointed when the "toner low" message popped up in the menu window after running only 50 or so copies. Finally at approximately 250 copies, the toner in all three color cartridges ran out, so I was obliged to replace them. The first few pages were a bit light, but now the cartridges perform better than the originals that came with the unit. Cartridges are super easy to install and colors are vivid. Time will tell if I actually get the 1400 copies stated on the package, but if not, there's a way to extend cartridge life. Just Google the Brother printer model and add "toner override" then scroll down the forum for instructions.

Brother TN580 High Yield Black Toner Cartridge Review

(More customer reviews)This cartridge will disable your printer once it (the cartridge) tells your printer it's empty. The cartridge has a window that is closed (blocked) by toner. This window runs through the cartridge from one side to the other. When the toner is full, the window is blocked, when the toner is seemingly empty, a laser is able to shine through the cartridge one side to the other thus signaling to the printer to shut down for cartridge replacement. I have found that when you obstruct this window with a simple piece of masking tape, you will have at least 33-50% more toner left. I'll leave any manufacturer motive speculation up to you.
