(More customer reviews)1. Refilling your own toner cartridges will cut your printing cost in half (about $0.07 per page) compared with buying new High-Yield toner cartridges (about $0.14 per page).
2. Refilling your own toner cartridges will be one of the worst experiences of your life. Figuring out how to get your printer to not give you a "Toner Life End" warning will take you hours, if you can do it at all.
3. You will get all 5000 pages out of this refill. You might even get more prints than 5000.
4. Once you get this process right, you will save hundreds of dollars printing.
Only undertake the process of refilling your own toner cartridges if you are:
--On a shoestring budget
--Mechanically inclined
--A good problem solver (to fix the "toner life end" problem)
--Very patient with plenty of time
You will most likely not be able to remove the toner cartridge refill plugs (ridiculously difficult to avoid damaging), and will have to go to Wal-Mart and buy a series of funnels to refill the toner through the very small plastic toner viewing window. Be sure to refill over a bucket or outside, as toner will go everywhere.
The Brother HL-4040CN has 2 Toner Low Sensors
After you have refilled the toner cartridge itself, you will have to reset the gear on the toner cartridge (first toner sensor) to avoid "Toner Life End".
Then you will have to cover the optical sensors inside the printer with electrical tape (second toner sensor) to avoid "Low Toner".
