(More customer reviews)My workplace uses Seiko 420 and 450 label printers to print address labels and Code 39 barcodes. As with other reviewers, we have found that these printers have difficulty keeping output alignment straight when using labels less than the maximum height supported by the printer (i.e., the 1.13 x 3.5 inch small address labels), even when the label guides are fitted to the label roll. When the printer is upright, output tends to either slant towards one side of the label and can print outside the physical margins of the label. Our solution to this problem is to turn the printer on its side. This usually helps to keep output alignment straight. The SLP 450 seems to keep a tighter grip on the labels than the 420; so the 450 is a little tougher to fix when labels mis-feed.
We've had no problems using the bundled SmartLabel software for printing single labels, though we typically use Microsoft Word or Excel to print multiple labels at a time. I've noticed that our printer technicians sometimes have difficulty setting up the label printers, but the trick is to ensure that paper size, margins, orientation (portrait versus landscape) are set properly.
Overall, the SLP 420 and 450 printers are decent products, though maybe a bit tricky for mainstream users to set up or troubleshoot. The SLP 420 is slow when printing in Fine mode (203 dpi), so choose an SLP 450 over the SLP 420 if you intend to print many labels daily, because the SLP 450 is much faster. Perhaps Seiko could move the label guides closer to the traction feed in a future product revision to help keep output consistently straight. Seiko's newest label printers are a good fit if your shop already uses Seiko or compatible label printers. Their ownership costs become competitive with Brother label printers when the Seiko printers are paired with high-capacity rolls (some of which require an external label tray).

(More customer reviews)This nifty little printer is an amazing timesaver and a really useful tool. I'm constantly setting up files for my office or making mailing labels, etc. I used to use the Avery page sized labels, but would end up wasting so many because I only needed one or a few labels. This machine will print the labels as you need them! No more piling up lists of labels and saving them up until you have enough. No more using up a whole sheet of labels for just one label. This machine is extremely easy to use. It has many different fonts to choose from. It will automatically shrink the font size to fit the label if you have lengthy text. You can add graphics, frames, etc. Its software saves the labels, so that you can just click and print on often used labels. One piece of advice -- I would definitely purchase at least the SLP200 (I think there might be an even newer one out there...) I've had both the 100 and the 200. The 200 prints quicker and cleaner and has more options. It also will print both the 1 and 2 inch labels. The difference between the two models is huge and well worth the money. Happy printing!

(More customer reviews)This old machine is perfect, I bought a CD printer from casio and like it so much , that I bought this label machine and is as good as the cd printer. Because this machine is old, the PC interface is a RS 232 connector, which is not available anymore with this new computers, so I bought an USB to RS232 adapter, and installed the drivers and then you have to manually assign the port which the program that comes with the machine will use to send info to the label machine. After a while the machine finally worked just like the CD printer .
The program included in the package lets you write any type of letter and copy and paste pictures on the label or design whatever you want and then print it, as long it fit on the predetermined space, it will print.
So far i've done many prints and it works flawlessly.

Was a little hard to get the drivers correct with Windows 7.0, but now we have no need for a price gun any loger. This machine ties the computer info to the merchandise perfectly, prints the bar code with no problem. We are still trying to get our logo onto the label. Love it, well worth the investment.

A QWERTY board would have been 1000 times better. I have used a variety of labels, and even the flexible ones uncurl off the wires after a month or two. Not good for labelling wires. Great for office items.

(More customer reviews)If you're as obsessive about organization as I am, you'll love this little gadget. I use it to label everything from file folders to jars of spices or homemade jelly. The labels stay stuck and remain readable (although a trip through the dishwasher will fade the ink and may dissolve the glue). It's borrowed more often than my circular saw.
I do find that when you use the fancy font styles (such as italic or shadow) the text is less readable. The 2-line function works well, and the optional pictures are cute (but what prints doesn't match what displays in the slightest and they are distorted along with the text if you apply a font style). Text tends to print on the lower portion of the label ribbon rather than being centered horizontally.
If you've just punched in a long label, DO NOT suddenly decide to switch to or from the Big Caps size -- it will delete your entry.
If it starts behaving strangely, the batteries are low (which happens seldom. I've had the labeler for 5 years and changed the batteries once).

(More customer reviews)Works great. I never used the included software though. I got sick of waiting in line at the post office so I bought this to print out postage. I use a software from my postage provider and can print out postage for any type of package. I just wish that Dymo offered a label for printing just the postage and not the postage with an address. I've figured that each postage and address label costs me 10 cents total (for both). Not bad really.
Another great thing about this is that it doesn't require ribbons or ink! It's not super fast at printing, but printing out a dozen labels doesn't take much time at all. Not fast, but certainly not slow.

Brother Pt-1200 Label Printer 1 Tz Tape Cutter 6 AAA Batteries Review

(More customer reviews)I'm so disappointed with the PT-xxxx line of labelers. The problem is that they FORCE the lead out on the tape to be 1". So, by default, you're wasting 1" of tape on the front and back. Not only is it a waste of tape, but I use this primarily for printing CD labels--something which does not have 1" on either side to spare. The PT-1200 (and other models too) have a "margin" feature, which allows you to reduce the 1" margin to something much smaller--HOWEVER, the only thing it does with this feature is to print on the tape a few dotted lines to MANUALLY cut on. So, not only are you STILL wasting tape in the lead-out, but now you have to manually cut on the dotted line with scissors (the end of the label is stopped properly at the margin width you set, but is still wasted on the front). This is the second model from Brother that I will return and I won't buy another Brother labeler in the 1000 series. The PT-85 that I used to have worked fine, so apparently they made it worse with new features in the 1000+ series.

I went on Amazon and found a great deal on a Brother P-touch
PT-9500PC labeller, but received a PT-1650 instead. I was instructed
that I needed to contact the seller, which I did, and they didnt care
that they sent us the incorrect product; only that we follow their protocol
for sending the product back to them, which involved having UPS come to pick
up the product from us at an unannouced time, yet within a week. So I guess
they expected someone to be available during their entire work shift without
notice for up to 1 week. So they picked up the product last week and we havent
heard a word from them yet. Interestingly enough, this review we received from
Amazon asked us to review the purchase we made of a "PT-1650". Our order clearly
shows that we ordered the PT-9500PC. What a terrible experience, and it isnt even
over yet.

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent product and does help with many functions of my business. I can label things with specific names of fragrances and stuff like "Cotton Candy". They are also great for small items like lip balm because they fit the smaller containers. The only downfall of the brother labels is that they are not heat resistant. The way I have gotten around this is by either spraying them with matte or glossy fixative or by putting clear plastic tape over them. It would seem after a couple of months the heat and humidity makes the label fade. Overall I absolutely love the whole thermal printer though and these are perfect 1" dots to use for any labeling needs. If you live in a cooler more temperate state it may not be a problem.

I have found them to be too small for anything other than when I need a 3 or 4 digit number on a series of labels. The 11/12" squares ones have proved to be WAY more useful when you want a label more compact than the mailing address or file folder sized ones.

Brother P-Touch QL-550 Quick PC Label Printer Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this because I hate printing labels on a sheet. This works great. I have used it to print labels, name tags, banners so far it is great.
I saw the other reviews. One reviewer loved Dymo. I briefly owned a Dymo(not sure of exact model), it looked like a nice printer. The problems I encountered were with the software, it crashed my system. After no success in getting the software to work I decided to return it to the store. I am comfortable with technology but I am not a "techie" I just want to be able to get something to work with a resonable amount of time and effort. If the Dymo software works for or you have the technical skill to make it work for you then check out Dymo.
When I saw the OL -550 on Amazon I asked a few friends. One friend who works in a school uses this everyday to print lables when sending out applications and loves it. I decied to try it and have been happy with the printer and the software, it is fast. I use the included software to print individual labels and banners. The printer also works well with Outlook and Excel, I use both for bigger jobs. It does not require ink either, no cartridges to buy and learn to install, so that will save you time and money.
In fairness to the reviewer who complained that it only uses Brother labels, I happen to live in an area with many discount office stores and I am always able to purchase labels cheaply. So if this is not an issue for you - this it is a great fast powerhouse label printer.
UPDATE: We got a new computer that runs Vista. I was able to easily get online and update the software and drivers for this printer and it works great. I have been using the printer with the Vista for a couple of months and have had no problems since switching over to Vista compatable software. Brother has the downloads on their web site.

Brother PT-1010 Handheld Labeler with Rubber Grip Review

(More customer reviews)I first purchased the Brother PT-1010 thinking that I would try it out with batteries before I committed to buying the adaptor. The thing absolutely, positively would not run with BRAND NEW BATTERIES! Every time I tried to print, I got a low battery message.
Once I purchased the A/C adaptor it worked like a charm. Thus far the labels have been exactly what I was looking for - crisp printing, easy peeling and sturdy.
Besides the batteries, I have two other criticisms. First, the User's Manual is confusing. It's far easier to just start pushing buttons. Second, each label has about 1/2" wasted space on either side of the letters. I've taken to printing several labels at one time using 3 spaces to separate them. I then print as if it were one long label and cut them apart with scissors. There's much less waste that way!

It's a bit hard to remove the backing sometimes. This tape is hard to find and super expensive in stores. Got a great deal by getting it from Amazon. Labeled everything and I mean EVERYTHING in my kitchen and still lots of tape left. Now I'm all organized and the kitchen looks great!

The label system was a gift that was very much appreciated and it will get a lot of use. The only problem that I have with it is the cost of the labels. They are very expensive and before making this purchase check the cost of them at any office supply store. Other than that the PT-2110 is working perfectly.
