But unfortunately the one I bought has 2 major issues, 1. the replacement tape is crazy expensive. 2. When i turn it on it says, English, on the screen for less than 5 seconds and then dies. Does anybody know what I can do to fix this?

Brother Pt-1200 Label Printer 1 Tz Tape Cutter 6 AAA Batteries Review

(More customer reviews)I'm so disappointed with the PT-xxxx line of labelers. The problem is that they FORCE the lead out on the tape to be 1". So, by default, you're wasting 1" of tape on the front and back. Not only is it a waste of tape, but I use this primarily for printing CD labels--something which does not have 1" on either side to spare. The PT-1200 (and other models too) have a "margin" feature, which allows you to reduce the 1" margin to something much smaller--HOWEVER, the only thing it does with this feature is to print on the tape a few dotted lines to MANUALLY cut on. So, not only are you STILL wasting tape in the lead-out, but now you have to manually cut on the dotted line with scissors (the end of the label is stopped properly at the margin width you set, but is still wasted on the front). This is the second model from Brother that I will return and I won't buy another Brother labeler in the 1000 series. The PT-85 that I used to have worked fine, so apparently they made it worse with new features in the 1000+ series.

DYMO Label Manager LM260P label Printer, Black /Gray (1754490) Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using a label machine since we opened our store three years ago. My label machine of choice back then was the Brother PT-1950 P-touch PC-Ready Labeler for Small Workgroups.
I was grateful to check out the Dymo Label Machine because there were some serious problems with my older machine. Here are the features I really like in the Dymo.
1) Rechargeable batteries included. No need to worry about the batteries, just plug in and keep charged, then when you are ready to go, grab the label machine and take it with you.
2) "Short" ends on the labels. The Brother left over an inch on either side of the labels, and wasted about 50% of the labels I made. Given the cost of the labels, this is a feature that is truly helpful.
3) The ability to easily save the label for re-use later.
4) The "sizing" feature on the Dymo. It is possible to designate a length of label, then ask the Dymo to print the label to that size. This is particularly nice for putting labels on Items I have canned.
5) The "fancy" outline capability on the labels (again, a nice feature for canned goods I enter in the fair). Nice counts.
6) The easy capability of making 2-line labels.
7) The ability to add symbols (Like $ % @) makes it very functional for a store or business.
8) The labels do come in clear, making the mirror image feature (a nice addition) practical for putting the label on the inside of a window or other glass and have it come through in the correct directions.
A couple of areas that disappointed me - small, but I wanted to point them out.
A) You cannot use the Dymo Label Manager while it is plugged in. The adapter it uses is intended ONLY for charging the label machine. So you really DO need to keep those batteries charged for when you are using it.
B) It will take me awhile to get used to the Alphabetic keyboard ...
C) The Brother PT had an "automatic cut" feature, this one must be manually cut by pushing the button hard enough to clip through the label.
* Note - the video is a bit blurry, but I wanted to post it anyway so that you could see some of the features. It's a VERY handy machine!

Brother PT-1960 USB-Ready Labeler for Small Workgroups Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great labeler. I got it to help me implement David Allen's Getting Things Done program and so far it's been a great help. Of course, you can label anything you want, any way you want -- not just according to his system.
I use the AC adaptor exclusively because this is a little chunky for portability. That said, if I had to use it in a portable way, I could. I did install the software on my computer, but I'd rather just use the labeler in a stand-alone way. The software isn't as intuitive as it should be and requires that you trim the tape by hand. Yuck.
The print quality of the 1960 is pretty good. I think it works by heat, not ink, to print, so it's very clean. It leaves a lot of white space when it prints -- like an inch or so on each side. A bit wasteful, but what can you do? Not sure if you turn off the auto cut feature if it would use less tape.
The tapes are quite expensive, in my opinion, but there's really nothing else like it in terms of neatness and convenience. Make sure you have at least one backup. And unless you know what you're labeling, I strongly suggest using just black type on white tape. It's the easiest to see.
All said, this probably does way more than I need. I'm not sure I would get this model again for basic labeling, only because of the price. But if you want something a little fancy and with a nice keyboard layout, this is your tool.

Brother PT-1010R Electronic Portable Label Printer Review

(More customer reviews)Labels are clear and sharp and are great to look at. The problems are that it is set up to be wasteful. For example, the default text size is LARGE and I rarely want large; then it adds a lot of tape prior to printing the label and then after it. You literally waste more than half the tape. A work around for that if you have a number of labels to make is to make one big label and separate the words by a few blank spaces, then print the whole thing at once.
I can't get myself to put out another $20 for the AC Adapter, that's what's needed.
With those caveats, it's a good labeler.

Brother TZFX261 1.5IN Black On Whiteflexible Id Tape Review

(More customer reviews)The Brother professional label maker is a great tool since it can make sequential numbers in multiple copies. The flexible ID Tape is GREAT for labeling Cat5/6 cable, power cords in server racks, KVM Cables, SCSI Cables, you name it. When we cable racks of 8 or more servers it makes life much easier when you need to figure out which power cord to disconnect. The tape stays wrapped even in Hawaii's hot, outdoor MDFs. We work with TV shows that film out here and their cable rooms are all on the outside of the buildings and it gets pretty warm. The tapes have been in place for a year and haven't failed yet.
It's even great for around the house where you have lots of AV Cables running everywhere. Put it near the plugs so you can tell which power cord is the DVD player vs the Cable box. Label video cables with "To TV" or "To Tivo".
I ordered 4 and need to order again I use it so much. I wish it came in other colors, but that is my only gripe.

BRTPT2430PC - PT-2430 PC-connectable label maker Review

(More customer reviews)I have used a Brother PTouch-PC label printer for more than ten years. Although it has not been sold for years, label stock is still available and works well with the printer. However, the editor only worked under Windows XP. When the printer finally gave up the ghost, it was time to invest in a more modern product.
This printer works without any software if you choose to use it that way and it functions pretty well. To use the full range of features available in the printer, you need to use the editor and it works perfectly with Windows 7. There are a much wider range of labels avaiable for this printer than the one I was using including some color ones. The printer is also able to be powered by internal AA batteries
which might be helpful in some applications but I have not tried this feature.
I highly recommend this printer if you need a reasonably priced, full featured label printer.

Brother PT-1010 Handheld Labeler with Rubber Grip Review

(More customer reviews)I first purchased the Brother PT-1010 thinking that I would try it out with batteries before I committed to buying the adaptor. The thing absolutely, positively would not run with BRAND NEW BATTERIES! Every time I tried to print, I got a low battery message.
Once I purchased the A/C adaptor it worked like a charm. Thus far the labels have been exactly what I was looking for - crisp printing, easy peeling and sturdy.
Besides the batteries, I have two other criticisms. First, the User's Manual is confusing. It's far easier to just start pushing buttons. Second, each label has about 1/2" wasted space on either side of the letters. I've taken to printing several labels at one time using 3 spaces to separate them. I then print as if it were one long label and cut them apart with scissors. There's much less waste that way!

I particularly like the black on yellow and the 3/4 inch width because they stand out so well.

Brother P-Touch 1830 Labeler Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this labeler for the purpose of making 'permanent' labels to identify my flower varieties in my perennial flower garden. I have used the labels on many metal plant stakes in my flower garden and have not been disapointed with them. The labels stick well to the metal and the sun has not faded the letters. I haven't had any type of malfuntion problems with either the machine or the tape. I do remember the instruction book was a bit challenging, but it has been easy to use once I figured it out. My only 'complaint' is that it does use an 'excessive' amount of tape. There is an inch of blank tape at the beginning and at the end of each label.
Overall, I would buy this labeler again.
