Samsung ML2571N Compact Laser Printer Review

Samsung ML2571N Compact Laser Printer

I've had this printer for about a year now. No problems at all. Works fine networked to Linux and Windows computers. Not as large as some, but the pictures don't show the paper tray jutting out the front...a requirement for operation. A little loud, perhaps, but only on start-up. Short time from hitting the "print button" to the first page. And that's my only complaint; it's ready to print so fast that it requires a hefty heating element for the fuser. This not only dims the house lights slightly, but it yanked down the house voltage far enough to overload my (admittedly cheapo) Conext 700VA UPS (and no, the printer was not plugged into the UPS). A better UPS remedied that. Interestingly, the printer's surge didn't affect computers that were not on the Conext UPS (or not on any UPS, for that matter). OEM toner cartridges are a bit pricey, but good for 3000 pages (the factory says). Still, hard to beat for the price.

I have never written a review on amazon but after seeing this printer had no reviews I had to let you guys know what a beast this thing is. I have been looking for a printer with a 90's style in simplicity but a 2011 style of power. This thing is exactly that. Super easy to set up because of its simple drivers and the most powerful beast I have ever owned. It CRANKS OUT PAGES and they still have a very great quality! BEST LASER PRINTER ON THE MARKET HANDS DOWN!!!!!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!! ALSO DO NOT BUY THE LEXMARK PLATINUM PRO 905. I BOUGHT ONE FOR MY MOTHERS BUSINESS AND MY AUNTS BUSINESS AND THEY BOTH WANT NEW PRINTERS. BUY THIS INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Samsung ML-2855ND Monochrome Laser Printer Review

Samsung ML-2855ND Monochrome Laser Printer
Average Reviews:

Replaced my USB HP 1300 with this printer. It is on a mixed mac and Windows XP network. Extremely easy to setup. Plug into ethernet port and Bonjour instantly recognized and set up on mac via Printer system preferences, Install disc adds nice features on the mac such as IP address, toner level etc., very convenient. Also very easy to add to windows XP machines . Samsung did a great job of adding features that are Mac OS X compatible. Very solid construction, with convenient 50 tray auxiliary paper path, also designed for more heavy usage compared to ML2851. Only complaint is it seems to take a second or two longer to print the first sheet, and toner is not readily available at local office megastore.
Update: After 1 week in office first page out deemed too slow, returned and purchased HP P2055ND, It seems much quicker to print the first page, which is important in my setting, where we print single sheet walk out statements/receipts. The HP is more costly, but has gigbit networking. The samsung has better on screen support and info than the HP when installed on a mac. I would reduce the Samsung to 3.5 stars

So far this laser has been great. i was looking for a laser that printed on both sides and network ready. The samsung filled the bill at a very attractive price (can be has for $160 with instant rebate). It was a breeze to setup on Mac OS 10.5 as a network printer. Bonjour found it and just use the Samsung driver. Also since it has native postscript support you can use the Generic Postscript Driver with it as well. Works fine under 10.5 that way as well. Printing speed is awesome, and printing on both sides is great. the smaller form factor is great too.

Brother HL-5280DW Wireless Laser Printer Network Duplex Review

Brother HL-5280DW Wireless Laser Printer Network Duplex
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned the printer for about two months now and I am satisfied with the purchase. It is hard to find another printer in this price range (I paid $315 at Amazon) with similar feature set. I use it on my wireless LAN at home with both PCs and my MacBook Pro, and have not had any major trouble so far. I did not dare to setup the security features, so I can't relate to the other reviewer who had problems with enabling them on the printer. I rely on MAC address filtering on my access point for the time being.
Now, there are 3 aspects of the printer I did not like a whole lot :
1. Fan noise.
2. Clicking sound during warm-up.
3. Surge of current generated by the printer upon startup.
I emailed the tech support, and received an answer promptly, to my satisfaction, so I decided to keep it.
Overall I rate it with 5 stars based on the price/performance.
The answers from tech support are below for your reading pleasure.
The fan will run until the fuser is below 100 degrees Celsius. Make sure that the printer has adequate space on each side for proper ventilation,at least 3 to 4 inches around all sides. The HL-5200 Series machines may make a clicking, ticking or popping noise when the machine is warming up, in standby mode or cooling down after making copies. This noise occurs when parts within the fuser
Unit (part of the machine that adheres the toner to the page) expand and contract as part of the normal heating up and colling down process.
PLEASE NOTE: This noise ONLY occurs when the machine is warming up, is in standby mode or when cooling down AFTER printing a document. This is normal operation and not an indication of a malfunction of the machine. If the noise is accompanied by a machine malfunction (for example: a paper jam, machine error, loud grinding when making prints etc), please contact the Brother Customer Service department at 1-800-276-7746.
Lights flickering or dimming when using the printer can be explained by the following information. The average operating current for the printer, as determined by Underwriters Laboratory (UL) testing is 5. amps. However, when the fuser is cold or when the printer is warming up,it will jump to 7.5 amps. This is a design element to enable the printer to get ready for a quick time to first print. The power spikes up to ready the printer quickly. Sometimes the spikes will cause lights to flicker as the power is drawn.
The printer has been tested and approved by UL. The printer will not damage home wiring. UL has confirmed that the home circuit breaker would trip before any damage would occur. This design element ensures the printer performs 30 pages per minute printing and fast wake up time. This design cannot be altered and is not an indication of a manufacturing defect. We do recommend not to share the same power circuit with other high-power appliances, particularly an air conditioner, copier, shredder and so on.

Samsung ML-2525W Wireless Mono Laser Printer Review

Samsung ML-2525W Wireless Mono Laser Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this printer a few weeks back. So, my review can only attest to the initial quality and operation of the printer. When shopping for a printer, I wanted a small, wireless (i.e. WiFi enabled), laser printer that I could use on my home wireless network. This printer fits the bill.
Once I received the printer, setup was incredibly easy. You just hook the USB cable to your computer, follow the software prompts, and then the printer is suddenly connected to the WiFi network. That is the last time I used the cable. Now, when I hit print on my laptop, it prints wirelessly.
I also like that the printer is relatively quick (24 ppm) and prints clean, crisp laser prints quickly. For $99, this is great deal and I'm pleased with the purchase.
I'd recommend buying this laser printer over the all-in-one units. While those all encompassing units may be tempting, I think you end up with a better deal by buying this Samsung printer and then buying a high-quality scanner as a separate item. For instance, I bought a separate Fujitsu Scansnap scanner (also, a very compact item). It scans so much better than the scanner I have on the all-in-one that I bought a couple years ago.

Brother HL-5050 17 PPM 600 dpi Laser Printer Review

Brother HL-5050 17 PPM 600 dpi Laser Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Setup - easy
Basic Operation - fast and reasonably quiet, appears to be well built.
Printing text - excellent, as good as a much more expensive industrial hp laser printer I frequently use. Nice and dark.
Printing graphics/photos - in highest settings (1200dpi, "improved gray scaling" checked) it's good, but nothing exceptional. The output is not too dark, as is sometimes the problem with other inexpensive lasers.
Manual Duplex printing - this was at first confusing to me because I wanted to use the lower paper tray to do it all: print one side and then feed the output back again into the lower tray to print the other side (if you have more than 50 sheets you need to use the lower tray). This did not work for me until I finally hardwired the tray settings from "auto detect" to "tray 1". The manual did not mention this step. New drivers from Brother (as of January 14, 2004) did not fix this. Printing duplex from the multi-purpose tray works fine without having to hardwire the settings.
Customer support - so far not good. I went through much trepidation figuring out how to get the lower tray to work on duplex because I could not reach support people. The number always seems to be busy.
Highs - good, fast prints and reasonably quiet operation.
Lows - documentation is not completely accurate, customer support isn't good. Could use a sleep mode indicator as the previous reviewer mentioned.

Brother DCP1200 Mulitifunction Review

This is currently the only laserjet multifunction machine on the market, and it's a surprisingly good, economical product. Copying is excellent, and text print is BETTER--and faster--than on an HP 2100 laserjet. The flatbed scanner/copier accommodates an 8 1/2 x 14 page (unlike most of the "personal" models, which have only an 81/2 x 11 bed, which is true of every other multifunction machine). Set-up is easy and intuitive, and the tech staff has been surprisingly responsive. I have been exceedingly happy with both quality and ease of product. It makes a lot of sense for those who do a lot of black-and-white printing (much cheaper to run than an ink-jet for that function), but who want copying and color scanning capabilities as well.

I bought this printer because I needed to print out lengthy manuscripts, as well as graphics-heavy PDF files. This printer does both very well. It prints very fast if you have one or two pages. When I printed a twenty-page document, it paused every few pages. The entire document printed, crisp and clear. I was particularly impressed with the graphics output, which came out much clearer and sharper than my old HP laser printer.
I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs an affordable laser printer. Be aware that you will need to get a USB cable.

Brother HL-1650 Laser Printer Review

Brother HL-1650 Laser Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned this for about a month. The HL-1650 is just about the best $600 I've ever spent. The speed is a little slowish on graphics heavy documents, but still much faster than inkjets with the laser quality output. The unit has a good number of features, but probably the strongest selling point for this unit is duplex printing at the $600 dollar price point. That's about half the cost for an HP with a similar feature without a noticeable drop-off in print quality. Outlets such as Office Depot display both Brother and HP brand laser printers, so they can be compared side by side. I was resistant to buying a laser printer that was not an HP, but I can honestly say I'm glad I took a chance on the Brother HL-1650. For the money it is by far the best printer out there for b&w printing, and the duplex feature makes it an even better buy.

You just can't beat the price! I received the unit just about 45 mins ago and it has flawlessly been installed and configured to run on Windows XP, Windows 98 and a Red Hat 7.3 Linux box (with Samba). The unit is compact but holds almost half a ream of paper and cranked out an 11 page document in just under a minute (validating the 12ppm advertised). The power save feature turns on in an appropriate amount of time (about 90 secs or so) and recovers quickly, no more than 15 seconds. The only drawback is it's lack of expandable memory (although 2MB is a lot for this price) and no USB port if you are interested in that. The standard parallel port seemed quick enough for me. Final thought - better than a great deskjet at the same price!

This is another good product from Brother. We use a number of different types of printers in our business and this is the best of bunch.
We have an all Mac office, and set-up was a breeze. We've networked it, and it also works well using the Mac's built in printer sharing over a wireless network.
Color is great, with the right resolutions you get good photographic reproduction. We use it very effectively with brochures.
One of the downsides is that accessories are expensive. Another is that in operation it is a little noisy. While in operation it makes a number of clunks and bumps, something to do with the switching between the various cartridges I think.
All and all though a very good machine. And by the way shop around a little for toner. It can be had for a lot less then the list price.

Brother DR300 Replacement Drum (20,000 Page Yield)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this product for a couple of years now. It is the drum for my Brother HL-1040. Brother has a nice setup where you purchase the toner cartridges separate from the drum. According to Brother, the drum prints 20,000 sheets before it needs replacing. So, you get 20,000 sheets and then you can either spend the $160 on a new drum, or just buy a new printer.
Let me say that if you get 5,000 printed sheets from this drum you are doing better than most people. Brother lies to their customers when they claim this drum produces 20,000 printed sheets....it just doesn't happen. And at those prices for a replacement? These are deceptive claims that try to justify the price on a new drum.
This product should be avoided if possible.

Not sure about the other review, that's why I decided to add my 2 cents. I was able to get the printer out of the box, plug it in, install the CD and have a fully functional printer/scanner/fax within 5 minutes and I have a Windows 7, 64 bit PC. It scanned and uploaded the image to my Adobe program on the first try (I was not expecting this to be the case having read the other review). The image was very clear - in fact it was far superior to my old brother all-in-one that this printer replaced. The fax machine worked equally as well and I was able to fax a Word document from my computer with no problems on the first try. The fax interface is easier to use than that of my old brother machine as well. So far no complaints whatsoever - wonderful print/copy quality and easy to use fax/scanner. I paid $130 for it at Office Max. For this price, I feel like I got a bargain.

HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (CE657A#BGJ) Review

I purchased this printer through a local retailer and was debating between the HP and a similarly priced wireless printer from Brother. The replacement toner cartridges are a bit more for the HP, but then again, they come with the drum assembly built in. This greatly reduces maintenance and potential hardware failures.
Setup:
As for setup, under Windows it's a snap. Put the CD in and follow the directions.
Under Linux (I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)) the install was easy. I visited [...] web site and downloaded the drivers. From there, I just followed the directions on the web page and it works like a charm.
I've not used it with a Mac, but I did note that OSX is listed on the box.
Printer quality:
As for the printer itself. It has a very small footprint on the desk when the paper trays are not extended, and a small one when they are. It has excellent monochrome print quality and is very fast. As with all laser printers, the ink is waterproof once it's on the paper. I'd recommend it any day of the week.
The printer's body feels solid when you handle it. The input trays are similarly solid. The output tray feels a bit light, but as long as you aren't abusing the tray, it'll be more than sufficient.
HP Experience:
For me, HP printers are generally very reliable and always has good driver support both under Windows and Linux.
