(More customer reviews)I purchased this product to use strictly to send and receive black and white faxes for a 5 person office. It worked great until the color cartridges dried up. After 6 months I had to purchase a set of color ink cartridges just to print out the black and white faxes. A call to Brother's customer service revealed that there is no way around this problem. To spend $45 every 6 months on wasted consumables makes no sense to me! The machine has been fast and trouble free and does produce clear faxes and copies. We have not used the phone feature.

It's a bit hard to remove the backing sometimes. This tape is hard to find and super expensive in stores. Got a great deal by getting it from Amazon. Labeled everything and I mean EVERYTHING in my kitchen and still lots of tape left. Now I'm all organized and the kitchen looks great!

After reviewing all three online and then "live" at an office supply store, I ordered the Brother HL-1440. While the print quality may be similar for all three printers, the Brother HL-1440's build quality, easy memory upgrade path, and cheap consummables made it the clear front runner. Further distinguishing this machine is its superb handling of thicker media. It produces excellent results on cardstock, using a convenient manual feed slot on the front of the machine. Note also that the paper handling of the Brother is, in general, more robust than its Samsung and HP counterparts. The Samsung uses the top-loaded, ink-jet style paper feed system that tends to have less precise alignment. The HP uses a non-removable paper tray that is flimsy at best. The Brother, on the otherhand, uses a standard removable paper tray that is durable and handles envelopes and legal-sized paper just as easily as letter-sized. (And don't discount the handy manual feed for the single envelope.)
Out of the box, USB setup of this unit on a Windows XP Home machine was a snap. The 1440 comes with a fully illustrated easy setup guide that will have you up and running in no time. All XP drivers are available on the disks that are shipping with these machines at the time of this review.
One last note: Don't forget to order a USB (or parallel) cable with your printer!

Brother TN-360 Reset Gear, also good in the TN-330, HL-2130, and HL-2140 Review

(More customer reviews)This set of plastic gears worked exactly as the seller described. I was able to use the original toner cartridge that came with my laser printer over and over again. About 30 minutes to read some directions, a phillips screwdriver, some patients, and I was back in business with my modified OEM cartridge. There was not one streak or bad page print from the refil toner I also used from the seller LaserTek. Seller recommended to me after a phone call to them that toner refils will deteriorate after 3-4 refils and then need to be recycled (thrown out). It's sounds crazy that a bunch of plastic can save you money, however, at approx. $46 per toner cartridge, this $6 set of plastic can save you almost $160 in wasteful landfil loading cartridges. Remember, these gears only work on the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) toner that comes with the printer. After 2-4 refils you will not be able to reset again unless you don't mind streaky, gloopy, prints.
Seller is more than helpful on the phone with questions, don't hesistate to ask. :-)

(More customer reviews)We’ve used this for about 2 months now and have been very satisfied. It was very easy to set up and we have had no problems with it. We have it set up with a "distinctive ring” feature so we can have both a voice number and a fax number on the same physical phone line. It has had no problem handling this and it has always been able to tell a fax call from a voice one. We also have an answering machine, PC Modem, cordless phone, and credit card terminal all hooked up to the same physical line as this fax machine and have no conflicts or problems. The footprint is very small which is nice if you’re running out of deskspace.
The print quality is OK. We use to have an inkjet based fax machine and it was better.
When your comparing prices on these machines, be sure to add the cost of a replacement cartridge to the purchase price of this one (...)The cartridge that comes with it is only good for about 20-30 pages. I get that much junk fax in a couple of weeks. If you decide to buy this one, get a spare cartridge also.
We use this in a home office set up and only get a few of faxes a day. If you have high volume fax needs, this may not be the machine for you. It’s slow and I’m not convinced that it would hold up very long under high-volume situations.

I assumed since the product description and the listing heading say that there is an estimated page count with the purchase of this "laser toner drum." A Laser Toner Drum indicates that there is toner included with the product. Unfortunately, this is only a toner drum cartridge. Brother laser printers mostly come with a 2-part system - a toner cartridge that processes the toner transfer to the paper, and the drum of powdered toner itself. This listing and description had me thinking (and rightly so) that I'd be getting a whole solution, not just one part. So I purchased it and was shocked and annoyed that there was no toner with my Laser Toner Drum purchase.
Here is where Greattoners (the seller) won me as a return customer: They responded to my email in under 24 hours, apologized profusely for the misleading listing and immediately sent me a toner drum free of charge. I rarely encounter a third party reseller who doesn't first try to lay the blame at the purchaser's feet and was more shocked at the incredible customer service and overall understanding than I was from the misleading product listing. Under any other circumstances I would have given this one star (or less if possible) but the Cartridge was in excellent shape and the toner I later received from them is also perfect saving me a TON of money over a Brother-branded refill.
